Save Gmail Attachments by Drag & Drop in Google Chrome

If you are using your GMail on Google Chrome browser, this is, of course, a nice tip to you to download/save your email attachments simpler. GMail team recently introduced a new feature in Chrome browser for saving email attachments from GMail to your computer drive easier by dragging and dropping.

If you received any email with attachments, just hover your mouse over the attachment place at the bottom of the email. You will see a Tool Tip Text saying 'Click to view OR drag to your destop to save'. Yes. Just click and hold, then drag the attachment to required place on your desktop. The attachment will be downloaded and saved on that location.

Mp3Cut offers the free online service that lets you to make your short music files from long mp3 files. It has wonderful interface through which you can entertain your work. The process is simple, easy to understand:

Upload your Mp3 file - Just click Upload mp3 button and choose your mp3 file from your computer.
It would take some time to upload and prepare your file for editing, depends on the speed, type of your internet connection.

I use the music 'Chitti Dance Showcase' to make my ringtone.

As you could see in the image, 'Chitti Dance Showcase.mp3' has been uploaded and prepared for editing. I choose a portion of the original music starting at 00:00:00 and till 00:47:06, I feel this is good a ringtone. Clicked Split and Download, Endhiran ringtone is ready!

Install Flash Player Plugin in Firefox without Admin rights

Adobe Flash Player plugin is useful or needed for an internet browser to display graphics or video properly. In order to install this plugin to Mozilla Firefox browser, you need to have admin rights or previliges in your system. There are no issues if you are using your own personal computer. But in your school, college, or office, wherever you are just a visitor or the basic user, you will not have admin access or permissions to install any software. Here is a quick 'how-to' to install Flash Player plugin on your Firefox without admin previliges.

Firefox without Flash Player Plugin

This is just a trick, installing plugin manually without letting Firefox to install plugin. All we need to first is to download the Flash Player XPI package from Macromedia Flash. The file name is flashplayer-win.xpi.
As this XPI is basically a archive file having installation files and your windows system does not have a software to extract .xpi files, you can safely rename it to flashplayer-win.zip. Just right click -> Rename or F2. Now you can extract the zip file using any of the archive utility like Winzip, WinRAR or 7Zip. If you do not have any of those software installed on your system, you can read instructions unzip files online using Wobzip.org.
Go to the Firefox installation directory, i.e %APPDATA%\Mozilla[or Mozilla Firefox] (%APPDATA% is alias to the folder in your system or absolute path to a folder where your applications and configurations. This will be generally C:\Program Files\, depends on the installtion of Windows. You can access it by entering %APPDATA% in your explorer bar or Start->Run). In side %APPDATA%\Mozilla[or Mozilla Firefox], if you don't see a folder 'Plugins', just create a new folder 'Plugins'.
Go to the folder where you extracted the flashplayer-win.zip file, copy only the files flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll to %APPDATA%\Mozilla[or Mozilla Firefox]\Plugins\ folder.
That's all. Restart the Firefox and try opening any web page having some flash contents. It will be displayed perfectly.

This trick is applicable for Firefox versions 2, 3, 3.5 or 3.6. On Epic browser, first Indian browser powered by Mozilla Firefox, this trick works. The plugins folder will be %APPDATA%\Epic\Plugins.

Do not look for any application to run. Just print your document using CutePDF Writer (the printer) to get PDF output.

Open your original document and select Print command in File menu of your application to bring up Print dialog box.
Then select CutePDF Writer as the Printer to print (DO NOT select "Print to file" option).
You will get a Save As dialog box prompted for saving created PDF file. Select a folder to Save in and enter a File name, then click on Save.
Go to that folder to find your PDF file.

As Epic is developed from Mozilla Firefox which is open-source based and completely free to use/distribute, Epic has more customized features for Indian internet users along with the default Firefox features. To begin my review, it is very easy to install and use Epic on your system, and enjoy its features. I would discuss more about Epic in the following sections.

1. Look-and-Feel - Skin a new look

The bowser looks different comparing to other browsers and is like cross of firefox with Google Chrome. All browser components float over a single image which can be changeable called Skin. These skins are especially of Indian sceneries and celebrities - a plus point. However the default things of Firefox like Menu, Search bar, Address bar all are same, except few modifications to icons.

This is one of the best features every Indian will like. It has many apps that will get us variety of stuff from web to single place, to our browser.

The recent attack on Orkut is http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/ which seems to be very dangerous honeypot that collects Orkut information using a website which looks similar to Orkut Login Page. It hacks your entire Orkut details like User Name/Password, Profile Info, Friends Details, Scraps, Messages, etc. But don't be afraid of using Orkut. Nothing wrong with Orkut, except this honeypot. We have solutions to avoid this hack.

The thing is that this honeypot seems to contain photos or pictures of cute babes. This is how it attracts to users into honeypot. But it actually kicks their ass off, and steals the information. So please be aware of it and informed with your friends.

How to Identify This Honeypot http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/?

http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/ uses a Login Page very similar to Orkut Login Page, which makes you to trust the site to provide your login details. If you see the below images, you will understand what the hack is.

Original Orkut Page

The below image is the original Orkut Login Page which has two essential things:

Original Orkut Login Page address starts with https://www.google.com, which means that this page is from Google server, genuine.
'https' at the start to ensure it is a secure page.
'https secure symbol' at the end.

You can see all these identifications on any browsers like IE, Firefox, Chrome or Safari, but the location where these are maybe different. (As per your browser preferences).

Fake Orkut Page

The below image is the honeypot Login Page which is similar to Orkut Login Page:

Fake Address, not from Google server
Not a 'https' secure page
No 'https secure symbol' on the browser.

How to Identify Attacked Orkut Profile

You can identify a Orkut Profile which is attacked by this honeypot http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/. I am not sure that this will present on all of the Orkut Profile attacked. But it is the case of most of the attacks.

Steps to Repair Your Hacked Orkut Account
If your Orkut account is by this honeypot http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/, then please ensure the following steps to be taken immediately:

Change the password of your Google/Orkut account immediately.
Never visit the link 'http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/, nothing is there except losing your account.
Always ensure the login page is original or not.
Un-friend or remove the friend whose account is attacked from your friends list.
Never visit attacked Orkut Profile.
Do not accept New Friend Requests before visiting their profile.
Never click on 'Proceed' button in any case for this kind of message 'User needs to access.. bla.. bla'.
Set protection level to your scrapbook, photo albums and videos to private or friends only, NOT public.

How to Prevent Your Orkut from This Attack?
If you are sure that your account is NOT hacked, these are the steps to be followed to prevent your account form the attack:

Never visit the link 'http://cut3-babex.blogspot.com/', nothing is there except losing your account.
Always ensure the login page is original or not.
Un-friend or remove the friend whose account is attacked from your friends list.
Never visit attacked Orkut Profile.
Do not accept New Friend Requests before visiting their profile.
Never click on 'Proceed' button in any case for this kind of message 'User needs to access.. blah.. blah..'.
Set protection level to your scrapbook, photo albums and videos to private or friends only, NOT public.

Use Google Docs as Free OCR - Extract Text from Images

Hi All

I have recently written about Free OCR - Extract Text from Images. In the continuation with that post, I am here to tell you about a nice trick with Google Documents that does the same work we have learnt on extracting text from images. As you are aware, OCR is very much helpful for extracting or getting text from images, scanned papers, print-outs, wallpapers, banners, etc. I came to know this trick with Google Docs, when I was surfing online curiously about 'OCR'. I would like to share my experience with you.

Google Documents List Data API

As part of Google Labs (An innovative environment where Google tests the new features to be added in Google Services like GMail, Orkut, Google Reader, Google Calender, Google Docs), Google introduced List Data API v3.0 for its free service Google Documents. API stands for Application Programming Interface, an interface implemented by a software or a service through which one application can interact with other.

Google Docs as Free OCR

As I told you earlier, List Data API is for extensions and innovations on Google Documents. Most recently, Google has added a new extension, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) interface to this API, which helps us to extract text from images. In the next few topics, I will clearly demonstrate how we are going to do this job.

Google Docs OCR Demo

Pre-requirement for this trick to work is that you should have your Google Documents account associated with your Free Google Account. You need an image or banner with good resolution, from which you are going to extract text. This is the link that I found from DocList API for OCR Demo: http://googlecodesamples.com/docs/php/ocr.php

Open this link in a new tab. Sign in to your Google Docs account.

When the OCR API prompts for the access to Google Docs, click 'Grant Access' button and wait for next screen to load.

In this screen, you can find the details about OCR, features and restrictions with that. Please follow the below simple steps which are self-explanatory:

Click 'Choose File' to select an image file to be scanned for text. (.JPEG, .JPG, .PNG, .BMP)
Choose the image file from your hard drive.
Click 'Open'
Click 'Start OCR import'
If you don't find any scanned file or image containing some text, but wish to test this trick, you can download a sample image file at the bottom of the page and then do the above steps.

Here is the input image file I used for the demonstration. Actually I took a screen-shot from one of my previous posts: Top 5 IMs for Mobile Phones.

Here is the output of the OCR import or scan. The text failed to extract during this import is marked as 'unrecognized text'. This is quite awesome, right? It is really useful to test this out. By default, the imported text will be saved a Google Document (A text file with the name 'the file name of the image supplied') in Google Docs.

Issues with Google Docs OCR

Google DocList OCR API is still as the Lab feature of Google Documents. So it could not be error free. If you face any issues when performing OCR import (like one given below), please check out your Google Documents - All Items, the imported file may be available there.

We have seen the art of making Images using just ASCII characters: ASCII Art. Here I come up with a fantastic website that lets you to extract text from almost any images that contain some text. This will be useful to you in most of the situations where you should get or extract the text contents on images, photos or banners.

Optical Character Recognition

If you think of the concept of extracting text from an image, it would be some form of recognizing letters on the image using optical pattern reading. That is what called Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Certainly there should be a need of a device or machine that recognize the text. Okay! Now forget about whatever you thought of extracting text from images. There is an easy online solution to work for you.

Free OCR

This is a website with a free service of extracting text from your images. Whatever the image is, if it has something to read, this site will catch them for you. This is a free service offered, no need to register. Free OCR accepts either a JPG, GIF, TIFF, BMP or PDF. Here is a question that why do we need to extract text from a PDF file, while we have options to select and copy the text using Text tool. In case, you don't have PDF reader installed on your computer or your PDF file itself has some images in it! this will help you out. For PDF files, this service will extract text from the first page only.

Features and Restrictions
Free-OCR can handle images with multi-column text and also supports more languages: Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.

The only restriction is that the images must not be larger than 2MB, no wider or higher than 5000 pixels and there is a limit of 10 image uploads per hour.

Now, let's give a try with the site. This is the link to the site - .http://www.free-ocr.com/. I am going to upload an image containing some text, let's see the result. For instance, I take a screen shot of one of my posts on www.mysearchhistory.co.cc and upload to the Free-OCR. The uploaded image would be:

How to Make Conference Call in Google Talk

Today I come up with an excellent trick that everyone will like. I believe that this is going to be a wonderful way, you will enjoy surfing into my blog www.mysearchhistory.co.cc. I would explain this trick in details with complete demonstrative screenshots taken from my computer. The trick is making conference calls using Google Talk or Gtalk, Google's Gmail chat client or application. I know that everyone will have your Free Google Account. If you don't have Google Talk installed on your computer, please download and install it now from here. I don't think you can enjoy your chatting without a GTalk chat client. Read the complete post to implement this trick even on your Google Talk application.

Call Conferencing

Call conferencing is an important feature, not only on mobile phones, but also in online chat applications. Using this feature, you can call many friends or family members in a single voice chat. You make it connected with multiple persons. Unfortunately Google which provides various amazing features doesn't yet provide call conferencing feature on its GTalk chat client. However you can avail this feature using Multiple Google Talk Windows. Multiple Google Talk windows on same computer! Is that possible? Yes, of course. I have already explained about this in detail at 'How to Open Multiple Google Talk windows'. I suggest you to read that first before proceeding this trick. Because this trick is done using that trick. :)

Making Conference Calls in Google Talk

As you are aware, using Google Talk, you can make voice calls to your friends or relatives who are also connected using their account. Now let's learn to make conference voice calls using Google Talk.

Assumptions

Let's, suppose, consider three friends want to make conference call where they three join and talk. I assume the following:

Three friends are Anbu, Arun and Bala (considering three of my college friends in mind :) )
All the three friends have Google Talk installed on their computers.
They have their systems set up to make voice calls.
They are online now.

Here We Go

Now each of the friends should open and login into two Google Talk windows (techies! as you guess, two instances of Google Talk :)) using the trick 'Opening Multiple Google Talk Windows'. Assume that Anbu has two windows Anbu 1 and Anbu 2. Similarly Arun 1 & Arun2, Bala 1 & Bala 2 on their respective systems.
In both the Google Talk windows, Referring the figure below, these three friends can make conference call if: Anbu 1 calls Arun 1, Anbu 2 calls Bala 1, then Arun 2 calls Bala 2.

The same way, any number of friends can be connected in conferencing by following the above trick.

How to Open Multiple Google Talk Windows

I would like to bring you a trick over Gtalk or Google Talk, a most wanted chat client for Gmail account holders. Have you ever thought of pinging your friends from two IMs, but of same account? Have you ever thought of pinging your friends from different accounts, but from your one and only computer? This post will be helpful to do all these tricks. I make this post most illustrative by adding the snap-shots taken from my system. Continue your reading for learning the trick.

How to open two GTalk Windows from same Computer

Assuming that GTalk (Google Talk) is installed on your computer and you are working with it logging to your gmail account. If you try to open one more GTalk window, it won't open with the default settings. But if you slightly change the settings of the way how GTalk starts, you can open multiple GTalk windows. I suggest you two ways of doing this trick:

Modifying the existing Google Talk shortcut
Creating new Google Talk shortcut

Modifying the existing Google Talk Shortcut

Once the Google Talk is installed on your computer, you will see a GTalk shortcut on your desktop. If you can't see then leave this and proceed to my next suggestion. Now let's see how to we modify the existing shortcut. Here are the steps:

Locate Google Talk shortcut on your desktop (or somewhere on your system) and right click on the icon, open 'Properties'. It will open a dialog box.
In the opened dialog box, select tab 'Shortcut' and find a text box named Target where you can see the text "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe". Now clear whatever there after the this text and add /nomutex at the end.
Press 'OK' to close the dialog box.

That's it! You can now open multiple Google Talk windows.

Creating new Google Talk Shortcut

This is the normal way to create a shortcut on Windows machines. Refer the following steps:

Right click on your desktop, then select New > Shortcut from the pop-up menu.
In the Create Shortcut dialog box, click 'Browse' button.
Locate the googletalk.exe file from the installation folder (default is C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe)
Add /nomutex at the end of the location text.
Click 'Next'
Set a name to new shortcut and click 'Finish' to create the shortcut.

Using this shortcut, you can now open multiple instances of Google Talk. You can login to multiple Google accounts.

I am very much satisfied with many Google services which are available on the web. I have already explained about Google Bookmark and Google Web History in my previous posts. In this post, I would explain about world's most wanted online service RSS Reader. Google offers this service as free for all regions. Continue reading for further details.

What is RSS Reader?

RSS is the abbreviation for 'Really Simple Syndication'. It is a real feed from your website or blog that indicates the site contents and features like author, submitted date, tags and comments posted. Hence RSS is sometimes called as 'Read Site Sources'. RSS Reader is a kind of application or service that is able to read the site contents from the publishers' websites or blogs using the RSS feeds. It just links to the real site source by displaying full or part of the post or changes made on the site.

Google Reader

Google Reader is a free RSS reader from Google, available as a web service offered for Google account holders. It has many features that every online surfers will like to use. You can subscribe any number of feeds in Google Reader and read them in a single place. Thus you can keep in touch with the contents of your favorite websites or blogs. Google reader makes your surfing now just like your Gmail Inbox.

About Java Applications

Java applications for mobile devices are developed from J2ME platform. There are many Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) available for the development of J2ME applications. I know very well about Netbeans, a free IDE from Sun Microsystems Inc, almost equally competitive to Microsoft's Visual Studio IDE features. J2ME applications are normally called MIDlets, programmatic name given to Java mobile applications. MIDlets are created as an executable Java ARchives (JAR files) which have file extensions '.jar'. MIDlets can be dowloaded from internet directly to the mobile devices using Java Application Descriptors (JAD). These files have extensions '.jad'. I think this gives you very basic idea about what the J2ME is and the JAR is. As I quoted earlier, do Googling for more stuff.

Mobile browsers are applications on your mobile device that allows you to surf internet. As you guess, the three important requirements to connect internet from your mobile are:

Your mobile service operator (provider) should offer you any of the mobile internet services like GPRS, EDGE or 3G.

Your mobile should have a browser client.

Though all the mobiles are now coming with their own default browser clients, you can not find it much useful. You can not get the maximum from your mobile internet. That's why, many big developers showed interest to develop mobile browsers.

How to Create Personal Folders in Microsoft Outlook

Here I would like to share my experience 'How to Create Personal Folders in Microsoft Outlook 2003'. We have already seen the procedure to set HTML signature in Outlook 2003. There I have explained the features and importance of Outlook as well. Continuing with that, this post will be helpful to customize you Outlook mailbox with personal folders.

Personal Folder in Outlook

As same as other folders, you can store, manage, and archieve your emails from your mailbox. But emails in the personal folder will be stored and accessed from your local computer's hard disk space. You can have any number of personal folders in your outlook, each can be created with different passwords.

Importance of Personal Folders

Personal folders are useful to

reduce the amount of space used on the central mail server and your mailbox, and avoid receiving warning messages that you are over quota.
encrypt your confidential emails with password protection to avoid unauthorized copying or forwarding.

Checking your Mailbox size

In your organization, your Information Technology team provides limited MB of storage space for each Exchange e-mail account. To check how much space you are using, in Microsoft Outlook, right-click Mailbox - , click Properties, and click the Folder Size button. This will show you the total amount of space used by your e-mail account as well as the amount of space being used by each individual folder.

Creating a Personal Folder in Microsoft Outlook 2003

Select the File menu, point to New, and click Outlook Data File.
In the New Outlook Data File window, select Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst), and click OK.
In the Create or Open Outlook Data File window, in the File name box, enter a name for the file, and click OK.
In the Create Microsoft Personal Folders window, in the Name box, enter a name to use for this folder if you would like it named other than Personal Folder.
Select Encryption Setting as 'Compressible Encryption'.
Enter the password and confirm the same typing it again.
Click OK to complete creating your personal folder.
The folder will now be listed in the All Mail Folders section of the Navigation Pane.

Note: You can check 'Save this password in your password list' to remember password for your personal folder in your mailbox.

Now get into your mailbox, you will see your newly created personal where you can keep your important confidential emails with encrypted and password protected.

NOTE: It is important to remember that any messages in your Personal Folders are stored on your local computer's hard drive and not on the server. If your computer's hard drive ceases to work or the .pst file is deleted or becomes corrupted, the messages you've placed in this folder will be lost. To protect yourself from data loss, make certain to back up your .pst file regularly to another location such as your personal or organization network storage.

Best Alternatives to PuTTY and PSFTP

I wanted an alternative for PuTTY which is an application I uses for my work. I did googling, it helped me a lot. I would like to share my search history.

PuTTY

PuTTY is a Free Telnet/SSH Client, an implementation of Telnet and SSH for Windows and Unix platforms, along with an 'xterm' terminal emulator. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham, a software engineer and free-software author in Cambridge, UK.

PuTTY 0.60 is the latest version of the PuTTY, released on 29-Apr-2007 is beta 0.60 and is used wide around the world by many organizations.

Working with PuTTY

SSH, Telnet and Rlogin are three ways of connecting PuTTY to remote servers:

logging in to a multi-user computer from another computer, over a network.
Multi-user operating systems, such as Unix, usually present a command-line interface to the user, much like the `Command Prompt' or `MS-DOS Prompt' in Windows. The system prints a prompt, and you type commands which the system will obey.

You might want to use SSH, Telnet or Rlogin if:

you have an account on a Unix system which you want to be able to access from somewhere else.
your Internet Service Provider provides you with a login account on a web server. (This might also be known as a shell account. A shell is the program that runs on the server and interprets your commands for you.)

You probably do not want to use SSH, Telnet or Rlogin if:

you only use Windows. Windows computers have their own ways of networking between themselves, and unless you are doing something fairly unusual, you will not need to use any of these remote login protocols.

Note: SSH (which stands for `secure shell') is a recently designed, high-security protocol. It uses strong cryptography to protect your connection against eavesdropping, hijacking and other attacks. Telnet and Rlogin are both older protocols offering minimal security.

Drawbacks of PuTTY and PSFTP

I have used PuTTY and PSFTP for all my SSH needs over windows to unix and unix to windows transfers for a long time now. It is great but certainly lacks a little polish in some areas. The one feature I really wanted was tabbed sessions in PuTTY.

Alternatives to PuTTY and PSFTP

After a little searching I came across a comment on this post that mentioned an open source alternative called 'Poderosa'. I just got round to downloading and I must say that so far it looks great. One more alternative to PuTTY is SSH Secure Shell Client which comes with a secure file transfer client called SSH Secure FTP Client. SSH Secure FTP Client is the best aleternative to PSFTP on Windows platform.

1. Poderosa

Poderosa is an open source tabbed based terminal emulator. Unlike any other terminal emulator Poderosa allows you to work with split windows, so that you can easily run multiple sessions at once. Another unique feature is that Poderosa can be used as a local shell for cygwin. All typical terminal protocols are supported: telnet, SSH1/SSH2 and serial ports. Poderosa also provides a plug-in architecture allowing 3rd party developers to easily contribute new features and functionality.

The only potential downside is that it relies on the .net framework, so it is not quite as light as PuTTY but good to work.

Poderosa requires .NET Framework 2.0. If .NET Framework is not installed on your computer, please get .NET Framework first by Windows Update. It works on Windows Me, 2000, XP, and NT4.0.

2. SSH Secure Shell Client

Though we can work with our computer system without it, Mouse is the most useful computer peripheral. We can say that we know well about the mouse and its usage in general. But there are some more features of new generation mice which are coming in different styles and designs. We would consider the one that we work with for our office work. Different applications give different actions to the mouse buttons on their interface. In this post I would like to tell you about useful features of the mouse buttons Left, Right and Middle/Scroll.

Left Mouse Button

Single Click – Select/Deselect, Click, Check/Uncheck

Double Click – Open, on Titile Bar of opened windows Maximize/Restore, on Video screen of most of the movie players.

Click and Drag – various functions

Right Mouse Button

Single Click – open Pop-up menu.

Middle Mouse Button

This is very much useful than others for the applications like word processers, readers, image editors, browsers and so on.

Starting, Stopping, and Restarting Oracle Business Intelligence Server - Siebel Analytics

Today I come up with a nice article about Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE), part of Siebel Customer Relationship Management (Siebel CRM) system. OBI is formerly known as Siebel Analytics while another part of Siebel CRM is called as Siebel Marketing or Siebel Application Interface. Siebel CRM is an emerging infrastructure for large organizations, involving millions of customers all over the world.

The tag-line is "Oracle Siebel! It's all about the Customer"

I can not make it presented here in this single post, all about OBI, however I would like to give you tips and tricks with OBI as well the Siebel CRM as a whole.

I have some experience with Siebel CRM. I hope this post will be helpful to people who have some ideas on Siebel CRM in prior. The notes that I am going to give you now is on Configuring Oracle Business Intelligence Server in Windows environment.

Why do we need Starting, Stopping, and Restarting OBI Server?

Restarting the OBI server is necessary for the following cases:

Application patch updates installed on the BI server.
Control Panel Settings changed.
Network (on which the BI is located) up-gradation or maintenance.
Troubleshooter run.
Application software installed.
Services become unavailable.
Services run long-time.
Non-responding processes.
Server configuration (changes in NQSConfig.ini, Web catalog files or repository .rpd files) changed.

On all the above cases, before the changes can happen, we must stop the OBI server, then restart it. It should be noted that the order in which we stop the server, then restart is so much important.

Order of Stopping, then Restarting OBI Services

To avoid unnecessary failures, the OBI services on Windows environment should be stopped in the below order:

Stop Oracle Business Intelligence Server Service
Stop Oracle Business Intelligence Presentation Services
Stop Oracle Business Intelligence Scheduler Service

I will now explain how these services are stopped or terminated under Windows environment. These steps are also very much important to consider when we want to restart the OBI server.

Stopping OBI Server under Windows

In order to stop OBI servers under Windows platform, we need to stop related Windows services. Because OBI servers are being run by Windows as services. Following the simple steps given below helps us to stop the OBI services. Here also the order is important.

Open Windows Services. (Start->Run->services.msc->Enter or Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Services)
Stop 'Oracle BI Presentation Services'.
Stop 'World Wide Web Service'.
Stop 'Oracle BI Server Service'.

Stopping Oracle BI Presentation Services will take longer time to finish.

Starting OBI Server under Windows

Starting OBI Server is almost the reverse process of stopping the server, instead of stopping we start services. In order to start the OBI server, we need to start the following services in order:

Open Windows Services. (Start->Run->services.msc->Enter or Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Services)
Start 'Oracle BI Server Service'.
Start 'World Wide Web Service'.
Start 'Oracle BI Presentation Services'.

How to set Signature in Microsoft Outlook

As you are well aware, Microsoft Outlook is known as very good business email client of all time. It is really fast to load and simple to use. That's why most of the organizations are still interested to use Outlook. The best alternative to outlook could be Mozilla Thunderbird, which is ofcourse a free software, not like outlook a must licensed one.

Today my colleague asked me the procedure to set signature on his outlook mailbox. I approached him with very much enthusiasm as I am always interested to do this kind of help. Though it could be silly thing, it's always better to share with someone who really doesn't know about this. So whoever doesn't have idea but needed to use outlook can be benefited.

I explain the procedure with screenshots taken from my laptop. All you need before to start with is Microsoft Outlook installed and configured with your webmail account. In the example I use, I have configure my outlook with webmail and the set up is complete and tested. Let's learn it.

In this example, I demonstrate setting signature in outlook from a HTML file. Don't be afraid of. You can do it easily. Type and set styles to your signature in a word document and then save it as web page (html file). Now we need to set this in our outlook.

Launch outlook. There are so many ways in Windows, and you know.
From the menu bar, choose Tools -> Options

In the options dialog box, choose Mail Format tab. Select HTML for compose in this message format. Then click 'Signatures...' button. Another dialog box will be opened on.

In this Create Signature dialog, click 'New' button. One more dialog is opened on.

Enter a name for your new signature. Select 'use this file as a template'. Browse for the html file that you have created already. Click Next button.

Your signature will be shown in the next dialog, you can make changes in your signature if you want, else click Finish button.

Close all other opened windows by clicking Ok button and apply the changes on Options by clicking Apply button. Your signature is now set.

No Signature on Reply and Forward Message:

By default this is applicable for composing new messages. Your signature is disabled for Reply and Forward message options. To enable the signature for Reply and Forward options, follow the simple step.

Choose Tools -> Options from menu bar.
On the Options dialog box, Select Signatures for replies and forwards as your created signature.

Tips to Convert Image to Array and Array to Image, C# .NET

I know my friend working on .NET development in a company. She wanted me to help her out in an occasion today. She actually wanted to convert a double array(double[]) into an image (Image) in C# .NET. I did googling on the this thing and I found something useful for my modifications.

You know I do also have little knowledge on .NET. I have Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 installed on my laptop which helped me to do this work. Unfortunately I could not finish this for converting exactly from double[] to Image. However it is useful for converting byte[] to Image.

Converting double[] to byte[], then using that will work for this C# code. I will try it out and let you know in the comments section. Here I share my search on this:

Tips and Tricks to set Legal Notice Logon Message on Windows 7

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop Dell Studio 1555. I searched on Google for setting a Legal Notice Logon Message on Windows 7. I would like to share the experience. Please read it carefully, it is applicable for Windows XP and Vista also.

What is a Legal Notice?

Legal Notice on a computer system is the logon disclaimer message for the authorized use of the system and its resources. It's just a security notice to the users who are going to use the system. Though it is not mandatory for personal and home computers, it is used wide for computers in network, especially in an organization.

I explain you the process. It is done by modifying the Windows Registry Keys. Windows Registry is the heart of the Windows OS which keeps the system and application softwares running by its associated registry values for various properties.

Legal Notice can be added to the system registry following the below steps:

Open Windows Registry - Run > type regedit > Enter
Navigate to the path - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Select 'legalnoticecaption' and set your text. For example, "Security Notice by User" (without quotes)
Select 'legalnoticetext' and set your message. (disclaimer message for authorized use)
Close the Registry by clicking (X) on the top right of the opened window.
Restart the system. Now the welcome screen will be the legal notice you created.

Sachin Tendulkar's World Record in ODI

First of all, we should congratulate Sachin Tendulkar, the Master Blaster of Indian Cricket Team who scored unbeatable 200* in the One Day International match against South Africa yesterday (24-Feb-2010). He is the first cricketer who ever scored double century in ODIs.

Kudos to the God of Cricketer!

We can not forget the moments he recorded this impossible world record. He scored 200* from 147 balls, taking 25 fours and 3 sixes. It was amazing entertainment watching his blasting batting performance on the ground, Gwalior cricket stadium.

The previous record done by a Pakistan batsman and a Zimbabwe batsman had been broken with this outstanding Indian!! We are proud of him.

India scored 401 for 3 wickets and won the match easily. As we know, the Master Blaster is the Man of the Match!

I am Muthuraj Lakshmanan from Chennai, India, a software engineer working in an MNC Company. I am a positive, open-minded, jovial and enthusiastic person. I do the good of my life by living better for the best. I like friendship, that's why I have very little enemies. I believe in goodness, faith, fortune and God. I have very good reasons for my beliefs, that people around me find on me.

I often use internet in my office, home and even in travel. As I am basically a computer engineer, I love computers and internet. I always like to spend my spare time on surfing the internet. I thank God, my goodness, I have everything I want in my life.

I have a new Dell Studio 1555 laptop, with high end configurations and a Sony Ericsson mobile which keeps me connected online wherever I go.

And I am here for doing right thing, right time, helping internet surfers to have better searches over world wide web. I perform more than 50 searches a day over internet, for various needs on my work which is really challenging for me, interesting as well.

For my searches, I use different search engines, basically the websites most of us using today. However I am very much fond of Google and its services like Gmail, Gtalk, Orkut, Google Reader, Google Documents etc. I quickly find out the desired results for my search on Google.
